The trip from the Albuquerque Airport is a
comfortable 3.1-3.5 hour drive northwest through the high desert. On
the trip you will travel through several Indian reservations and view beautiful desert vistas with high mountains in the distance. You
will also cross over the Continental Divide north of Cuba at an altitude
of nearly 7,400 feet. Most of the route is 4 lanes with the
opportunity to stop at New Mexico style Casino's at Sandia Casino (north
Albuquerque), Sandia Star Casino (Bernalillo) and Apache Nugget (about
20 miles north of Cuba).
After leaving the airport in Albuquerque travel West to Interstate 25
and then go north to exit 242 at Bernalillo. At exit 242 travel
west on Highway 550 all the way north to Bloomfield. At Bloomfield
Highway 550 will temporarily go east and then turn north. Instead
of turning north to continue on Highway 550 go east on Highway 64 11.3
miles to HIghway 511. Turn left on Highway 511 going north and
follow it 8.1 miles to highway 173. Turn left on Highway 173 at
