Navajo Lake State Park, NM - Abe's Site

Navajo Lake State Park at Navajo Dam provides a full realm of recreational activities including hunting, fishing, camping, water skiing, sailing, jetskiing and boating.  There are 3 developed camp areas including Cottonwood Campground on the San Juan River, Pine River Campground just north of the dam and Sims Mesa on the south shore of Navajo Lake.  There are boat ramps and marinas at both the Pine River and Sims Mesa sites. 

San Juan County Archaeological Museum (Salmon Ruins) - Bloomfield, NM Aztec Ruins Heritage Park The Salmon Pueblo was originally constructed about 1088 - 1090 AD.  The site was abandoned about 30 years later and then reoccupied about 1160 AD.  You can view remains of the pueblo and visit a museum.

The Salmon Ruins, Museum and Research Library are located at 6131 U.S. Highway 64 in Bloomfield, New Mexico.

Aztec Ruins National Monument - Aztec, NM Aztec Ruins National Monument
Aztec Ruins National Monument is located in Aztec, NM.  The site contains dwellings of early pueblo indians and contains about 500 rooms.

Chaco Canyon National Historical Park - Northwest NM Chaco Canyon National Historical Park The remains at Chaco Canyon appear to be the center of a large peublo civilization with dating to about 850 AD.  The site features well constructed multilevel buildings.  The culture at Chaco Canyon seems to have unique ties to lunar and solar events.  Today, modern indians of the Southwest are thought to have roots in the Chaco Canyon civilization.

Mesa Verde National Park - Cortez, CO  Mesa Verde National Park - Colorado Mesa Verde is the remains of a large Ancestral Pueblo including over 600 cliff dwellings. The site appears to have been occupied from 600 AD to about 1300 AD. Mesa Verde has some of the best preserved early Ancestral Pueblo dwellings in the US.
